Dancing Damsels all set for the Toronto International (Fall-Indoor) Dance Festival 2019

Toronto International Dance Festival Showcasing World dance forms, all on one stage – on 26th October, 2019 at Chinese Cultural centre of Greater Toronto.

Toronto (October 11, 2019): Hosted by Dancing Damsels, a not-for-profit multicultural arts organization, The Toronto International Dance Festival (TIDF) returns this Fall to enthrall audiences with world dance forms in a glittering show to be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto, Scarborough.

Since 2014, the TIDF has been the only dance festival to bring together dance forms from across the world on one stage, showcasing the amazing talent and diversity that Canada’s performing arts community is home to.

In keeping with the festival’s recurring theme of World Dance Forms – All on One Stage!” the Fall edition of this 6th year festival will host 15 dance companies from across Canada and will feature a range of dance forms from Spanish, Middle Eastern, Japanese, Israeli, Caribbean, Serbian, Indian to ancient English.

The dance companies that will be performing at the TIDF Fall 2019 are: The Toronto Morris Men, HUAIRAPUNGO GEEO of Ecuador, Ensemble Topaz, NEAR & FAR Projects, Delicious Dance Academy, Sushree Academy, Kaleidoscope Chinese Performing Arts (KCPA), First Nations Dance Company, Sakuramai TO, Roots and Branches Dance Company, Nirkoda Israeli Dancers Of Toronto Dance Company, Arte Flamenco, School of Serbian Folklore “SLOGA”, Mafa Dance Village and Roosara Dance.

Mary Ashok, Managing Director of Dancing Damsels said, “TIDF has been a great success since its inception in 2014 as we have been able to bring together some of the best talent and put together well-curated shows that presents both well-known and rare dance forms all on one stage. It literally opens up the world for viewers! It has become a ‘must-attend’ event for all lovers of this art form and I am happy to say that our platform has always welcomed not just experienced dancers but also emerging dance professionals.”

TIDF also kicks off yet another initiative – the Dance for JOY (Just Older Youth) Project. This time Toronto International Dance Festival (indoor) is organized and executed by Seniors through this project. This project was born out of consultations between seniors and Dancing Damsels members. Dance has long been identified as important for mental and physical coordination, improving visual, spatial recognition and long-term memory as well as aiding stability for movement. In order to create a meaningful platform to engage seniors and combat the perils of ageing, Dance for JOY will conduct a series of weekly workshops, using dance and movement to help improve the wellbeing of seniors and their greater community as well as alleviate the loneliness and isolation of seniors.

Commenting on the latest initiative, Ashok said, “It is necessary for all of us as a community to protect and safeguard our seniors and ensure that they live a full and meaningful life after retirement. We at Dancing Damsels felt that engaging seniors as volunteers for the TIDF and segueing this into the Dance for JOY Project was a good way to accomplish this. And as evidence by many recent studies, dance has beneficial effects on the brain and physical coordination, thereby being a helpful tool for the health of seniors including memory and prevention of movement disorders. Putting together carefully curated workshops by dance and movement professionals will provide an excellent opportunity for seniors to come together, learn something new and enjoy the time spent with each other, and more importantly, keep moving!”
