Successful Workshops for New Immigrants by Dancing Damsels

Information Workshop held on Saturday January 27, 2018 in Etobicoke Civic Centre

Toronto: Dancing Damsels organized a one-day workshop on various topics for newly immigrant women and families in Canada on Saturday, January 27 at Etobicoke Civic Center from 10 am to 6 pm. Mary Ashok, Managing Director of Dancing Damsels designed the workshop to facilitate engagement and networking for newcomers with successful people in different walks of life The workshop was ably funded by the Government of Ontario and was well attended. With a full day agenda the workshop featured a variety of guest speakers from diverse backgrounds and professions who graciously imparted their knowledge, skills and expertise to enlighten and assist newcomers with helpful ways to integrate into their new Canadian lifestyle.

Presentation of Cyber Guru – Sangameswaran Manikkyam Iyer on Cyber Security

Accredited Career Coach Gabriela Casineanu educated newcomers on initial steps necessary to obtain gainful employment and become successful in the workplace. ‘Cyber Guru’ Sangameswaran Manikkyam Iyer, Cyber Security Expert provided the new immigrants with helpful tools and tips to protect their identity in today’s digital world by bringing cyber awareness alerts to beware of internet scams and potential hackers.

Barrister and Solicitor Lata Menon & Team from Menon Law Office presenting on Legal Aid

A qualified panel of speakers from Menon Law office led by Barrister and Solicitor Lata Menon educated newcomers on their legal rights and responsibilities and emphasized awareness in areas of immigration, criminality and civil responsibilities.

Presentation by Gabriela Casineau (Thoughts Designer and Career Coach) on Career Guidance

Additionally, the workshop was equipped with a variety of services such as financial advice, settlement services, healthy nutrition guidelines and recruitment options.

Presentation by Kushalini Kumar on Health and Wellness

Dignitaries like Chris Fonseca, Regional Councillor for Mississauga Ward 3, and Former Senator honourable Dr. Asha Seth attended the workshop and delivered inspirational advice to motivate and encourage newcomers to take bold and confident steps forward in reaching their goals and congratulated them on making Canada their new place to call home.

Participants in the workshop were provided with free bus/TTC tickets, food and refreshments throughout the day. Participation certificates were distributed to all newcomers in closing by distinguished guests Chris Fonseca, Dr. Asha Seth and Paz Virrey.

The conclusion of the workshop also marked the inauguration of the upcoming International Women’s Day Celebration to be held at Toronto City Hall on March 3rd 2018.
