Victoria, BC – On Saturday, August 31st, 2024, Grade 12 student Haimavathy Saibish will take the stage at the Dave Dunnet Community Theatre to host “Dance to Cure Cancer” a fundraiser aimed at supporting the BC Cancer Foundation. The event, scheduled from 4-6 pm, will feature Haima’s captivating dance performances, honed under the guidance of her guru, Gayathri Devi Vijayakumar, artistic director of Nupura School of Music and Dance.
Haima, a student of Mount Douglas Secondary School, has been learning Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi since the age of five. Despite moving to Victoria in 2015, she continued her training online with GayathriDevi Vijayakumar. Her dedication to dance has led to performances at various venues in Toronto, Victoria, and Vancouver.
The “Dance to Cure Cancer” event aims to raise funds for the expansion of equipment and facilities at the Vancouver Island Cancer Center. The proceeds will help reduce wait times and increase the efficiency of radiation and chemotherapy treatments, ultimately benefiting local cancer patients.
Haima’s initiative has been supported by her parents, Dr. Saibish and Reshmi, and siblings, Tejas and Ramana. Her family’s roots trace back to Kerala, with her father belonging to the Elantholi family in Irinjalakkuda and her mother from the Kandarassery family in Guruvayoor.
The community is invited to attend this noble event and support Haima’s efforts to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients.
