KOURABA – the 5th Toronto World Music Festival 2017 (Nov: 2-5)
Toronto (2o October, 2017): Kouraba Ké Dunia marks the 5th edition of the annual Kouraba World Music Festival. A live spectacle of World Music & Dance featuring internationally acclaimed Master Musicians, in the spirit of mentorship and edification of their peers and music traditions. They will be performing in Toronto together for the very first time in this original concert presentation. It will follow the successful Kouraba performance model of artistic collaborations, mixed-media and ancient wisdom practices that reflect the cultural diversity and artistic excellence of both Canadian and International artists.
Kouraba Ké Dunia is a milestone on our journey towards cross-cultural awareness, blending the traditional Master practices with contemporary interpretations and creating accessible events of visual artistry and sound. New to Kouraba this year will be a special presentation by multi-talented Toronto artist, Safiya (Safiya’s House of Creation). She will be launching a Global Fashion & Hair theatrical presentation that is grounded in an African aesthetic with a global world view.
It’s got to be hard to consistently keep the high level of performance and cultural exploration going, but somehow Kouraba keeps getting better and better each year. Can’t wait until Nov 3rd weekend!

The idea for the “Kouraba World Music Festival” was first conceived in 2011 by world renowned Malinké, Master Percussionist/Artistic Director, Mr. Amara Kante and the multi-talented, Nigerian born Canadian Artist/Producer, Ms. Rachael Eluan Abah. This musical spectacle is a showcase of world music & dance innovation, homage to Master artists, a celebration of traditional art forms and an incubator for cross-cultural dialogue. The “Kouraba World Music Festival” brings together and promotes music from across cultures to present a unified voice to an often divided audience.
Kouraba Toronto Centre for Cultural Advancement is a non-profit organization with a strong mandate to engage and connect communities in learning more about African wisdom, traditions & artistic expressions. Kouraba Org provides both audiences and performers with opportunities to interact and communicate through song, story and visual artistry.
Kouraba represents artists from the far reaches of the globe, stages multimedia concert events and provides learning opportunities through workshops. Participants in Kouraba events will be introduced to Master Musicians, poets, dancers and visual artists creating memories and stories that are generational. Leading us to make new connections, share deeper insights about one another in practice and principle, further advancing our cultural kinship within and beyond the Canadian diaspora.
