Toronto(28 February,2018): Dancing Damsels Inc., an incorporated non-profit multicultural association that promotes arts and Women Empowerment; is set ready to celebrate International Women’s Day 2018 with vivid programs. This resplendent event called the IWD Women Achiever Awards Gala, will be held on Saturday 3rd March, 2018 @ 2pm at Toronto City Hall, Toronto. (100 Queen St W, Toronto, ON M5H 2N2).
This year, the theme of the celebrations is “PRESS FOR PROGRESS“.
Each year Dancing Damsels honor outstanding women with IWD Women Achiever award to appreciate their success in their field of work. This year’s IWD Women Achiever Award recipients are:
1. Hon. Harinder Malhi (MPP Brampton—Springdale)-Current Minister for Status of Women & Ontario’s First Sikh Woman Minister) – Politics
2. Asha Luthra (First Women President of ICCC & President: AL Consultants) – Community Leadership
3. Diane Wang-Martin (Speer headed the Largest Student-Run STEM Conference in the Nation) – Science & Education
4. Kalaimathy Vakeesan (High profile Dancer & Tamil Community Contributor through Dance) – Performing Arts/Dance
5. Latha Sukumar (Distinguish Lawyer& Executive Director of MCIS Language Solutions) – Law & Social Entrepreneurship
6. Rena Lu (Founder and President of Oakville Chinese Network (OCN) – Community Service
7. Dr. Shailaja Saksena (Founding Director and President, Hindi Writers Guild, Toronto, Canada)- Literature
8. Subhadra Vijayakumar (Distinguished Violinist & faculty member at the Royal Conservatory of Music) – Music
9. Dr. Vanessa Rambihar, Dr. Nadira Rambihar & Dr. Sherryn Rambihar (3 sisters who have made exemplary contribution to Health & Community) -Healthcare
10. Saleha Nahdi – (First woman to get Ph.D. and Post-Doctorate from Yemen, First CDO to be hired by SDFA when Community Crisis Response Program was established in 2008) – Community Development
Kehkasan Basu (winner of the 2016 International Children’s Peace Prize & United Nations Human Rights Champion, 2017 Turner Prize for Social Change, 2017 Energy Globe Award Winner) – will receive this year’s Rising Star Award.
The Lifetime Achievement Award for 2018 will be presented to Aruna Papp (Survivor & Advocate against domestic violence,who represented Canada in the 57th session of the United Nations) for her lifetime contribution to the community through her work and philanthropy.
John Tory (Mayor of Toronto), Hon.Kirsty Duncan, (Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities), Hon.Dipika Damerla, MPP ( Minister of Seniors Affairs), Iqra Khalid Member of Parliament for Mississauga—Erin Mills; Chris Fonseca (City Councillor, Mississauga) are the invited Guests of honor to grace the occasion along with other VIPs and dignitaries.
Teresa Hunt is the one of the Key Note Speakers of the event. She is a paralegal (To Your Defence Paralegal Services) with extensive knowledge of landlord – tenant issues and the President of Histiocytosis Association of Canada – the non profit organization for a rare disease.
Adding flavor to evening, there will be International Multicultural Variety Entertainments and Delicious food served are sure to tingle everyone’s taste buds at the event.
