10th Annual Nehru Trophy Boat Race at Professor’s Lake, Brampton!
Brampton (13 August, 2019): Brampton Malayalee Samajam (BMS) is all set to host the 10th Annual rowing contest- which will be held on August 24, 2019. There will be more than a dozen teams from different communities competing for the Canadian Nehru Trophy and prize money.
At Professor’s Lake, 1660 North Park Drive, the organization has put on a variety of dragon-type boat races from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The organizers are expecting many VIP guests to attend the opening flag off ceremony.
“Apart from creating a breathtaking new visual experience for the visitors at the Professor’s Lake, Brampton Boat Race includes a water procession, games, boat songs and live entertainment”.
Brampton Malayalee Samajam is a non-profit, non-political, secular and cultural organization whose principal objective is that of preserving and maintaining the culture, language and heritage of Kerala, a state in southern India. BMS provides occasions for socializations among its members also providing a forum for its members to express and share their cultural talents. BMS organizes and maintains a youth wing within the association to transmit Kerala cultural heritage to our youth. It also provides social services to the Malayalee communities as well as to the other communities. Every year BMS celebrates various festivals of Kerala. “We are the first Malayalee Samajam in Canada to organize the real “Vallaumkali”(Traditional Boat Race of Kerala) in August 2009.” – says Kurian Prakkanam, president and organizer of Brampton Boat Race.
The main sponsor of the event is Manoj Karatha of Remax Realty Inc. who sponsored the trophy and cash price of $1000 for 1st place.
Lata Menon Lawyers and Simmi Chacko Law (Gold Sponsors), All Nations Auto, Meridian Credit Union (Silver Sponsors) are the other sponsors.
The boat race is open to all communities and groups who register before the race. Each team should consist of 11 members. To register your team, email: info@bramptonboatrace.ca.
Registration fee will be $200 for a team (of 11 Members).
The Boat Races have been held since 2009 and is a roaring success.
The huge crowds that gathered to watch the races were thrilled by the magnificent fiesta that brought alive the tranquil backwaters of Heart Lake and Professors Lake.
