Artists Call for Toronto International Dance Festival 2021 – Online Edition

Toronto, ON – June 5, 2021: Dancing Damsels invites professional level dancers and artists to participate in the 8th annual Toronto International Dance Festival (TIDF) 2021 which will be held on 12th September, 17th October, 14th November, 12 December (4 Days), virtually online through social media platforms. The recurring theme of the festival is “Showcasing World Dance Forms – All on One Stage”.

Professional Level Dancers, Dance Companies, Dance production teams & Community Dance Groups can apply for this opportunity. (All the performances will be ONLINE; and no in-person stage performances allowed this year due to Covid 19 pandemic )

TIDF is a celebration of the diversity and prosperity of the dance community in Toronto and beyond, providing opportunity to professional and community dance groups to perform online for a multicultural audience.

Past events have included over 60 different dance pieces, well over 200 performers and an impressive variety of dance forms including: Jazz, Ballet, Ballroom, Modern, Contact Improv, Hip Hop, Musical Theater, Irish, Latin, and Egyptian Belly Dancing, South Asian Classical and popular dance forms, just to name a few.

With such an abundance of dance groups associated with Dancing Damsels, participation in the festival is a great opportunity for dance groups to promote their own work and ventures, and interact with other dancers and dance groups to forge collaborations.

Application Process: Professional dance companies & independent artists / dancers / choreographers from all over Canada may apply.

Applications from different dance styles are welcome. All genres, forms, modalities, and varieties of dance, movement, and performance will be considered. Criteria for the work presented: solo (3-5 minutes), group (6-10 minutes), and productions (15 -30 minutes). Priority will be given to artists of colour, artists living with disabilities, new generation artists (18-30), new Canadian (immigrant) artists, and artists from varying geographic locations.

Performances should not contain nudity, abusive language, overtly sexual or religiously sensitive content.

A modest honorarium will be provided to all performances. TIDF recognizes the limitations posed by the COVID-19 restrictions and understands that not all dance forms are easily adaptable for the camera. Nevertheless, the festival encourages you be bold and creative in your execution. A jury of previous presenters at TIDF will be assessing all applications. Successful applicants will receive an honorarium based on their production cost, number of dancers, quality and professionalism.

Applicants need to submit a resume, a description of the work, credits of all the artists involved including music and the full-length HD quality video of the proposed work(s). For those who are interested to organize a 30 mins online workshop, please include a description of the proposed activity.

All applications will be reviewed by the TIDF programming committee and selected artists will receive a confirmation letter by August 15, 2021.
