Monster Rock Orchestra Set to Take Over Garden Square in Brampton for Sixth Annual Show

The face-melting fusion orchestra is joined by Sumo Cyco August 18th for the sixth edition of the free music festival

Brampton, ON (August 9, 2017): The larger-than-life Monster Rock Orchestra is back this summer and ready to rock Garden Square in Brampton August 18. Featuring seasoned performers from across the GTA, the orchestra joins forces with sensational rock and pop tunes to create an unforgettable, face-melting show that leaves audiences screaming for more. Expect your favourite singles from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and onwards – all combined with a massive live orchestra, stunning vocalists, and face-melting lasers. This year, in celebration of Canada 150, the Monster Rock Orchestra is honouring Canadian talent with the inclusion of hit songs from Steppenwolf, Bryan Adams, Carly Rae Jepsen, and more. Following a headlining performance at Yonge Dundas Square, the act will all come together at Garden Square to prove that hit songs + orchestra + lasers = #facemelting.

“We’ll be bringing high-energy live shows, jaw-dropping laser lights, and spectacular arrangements of modern and classic Top 40’s hits performed by some of the best musicians in the GTA,” says Executive Director Vikas Kohli. “Every year, Monster Rock Orchestra takes the stage with a slew of talented artists to bring together a heart-racing, headbanging show.”

The team at MonstrARTity is excited to announce that Sumo Cyco will be joining the Monster Rock Orchestra for an exciting free show. The Hamilton based metal group fuse hard rock guitar riffs with in your face beats and dancehall rhythms, topped by electric female vocals. Front-woman Sever is the alter ego of pop sensation and Juno nominee Skye Sweetnam, who has performed in over 25 countries and opened for Britney Spears for 50 dates on the Onyx Hotel Tour. Since departing her solo career and forming the band, Sumo Cyco has toured with artists like Mushroomhead and Butcher Babies. In the studio, they’ve worked with Jag Tanna (I Mother Earth), Julius ‘Juice’ Butty (Alexisonfire) and Matt DeMatteo (Big Wreck). Sumo Cyco has won Loud/Metal Recording of the Year at the Hamilton Music Award, Best Female-Fronted band at the Toronto Independent Music Awards, and won Indie Week Canada before touring the UK and Ireland. Their recently released sophomore album Opus Mar,is a raucous hard-rock masterpiece featuring their electrifying single “Anti-Anthem.”

“We’re stoked to be hitting the stage with the one and only Monster Rock Orchestra this month! It’ll be so exciting to see such a unique fusion act and to know we’ll be a part of that show,” says lead vocalist Skye Sweetnam.
