CATS: True Tails and Life Lessons From A Purring Companion By PAMELA WALLIN

There are over 117 million cat owners in North America. A Cat influencer can get nearly an 89% increase in comments compared to human influencers.

“Thousands of years ago, cats were worshipped as gods and they have never forgotten this,” a the old saying goes. Updated and modernized, this 20th anniversary edition of CATS: True Tails And Life Lessons From A Purring Companion by Pamela Wallin is the purr-fect read for cat-enthusiasts, those intrigued by the fascinating history and biology of cats, and for the many who don’t “get” the appeal of feline friends. Fun, compelling and easy-to-digest, CATS will appeal to all animal-lovers—“dog people” included.  CATS provides insights from experts, including veterinarians and animal behaviorists, which would appeal to those looking for a more informative and authoritative book about cats while still being entertained.

Wallin also delves into the unique bond that exist between cats and people, how they bring comfort and joy, and even healing to our lives, including interviews with cat owners, riveting fun facts and phenomenal anecdotes about feline friends and their behaviours —“Almost all of a cat’s behaviours, even washing behind its ears, are weather predictions.” With personal stories about how Wallin’s (now deceased)  Siamese cat “Kitty” forever changed her, during some of her darkest moments, even 20 years after Kitty’s passing.

TALKING POINTS FOR CATS: True Tails And Life Lessons From A Purring Companion

*Wallin always thought she was a dog person until Kitty fatefully came into her life. How did Kitty change her heart and mind?

*  This is a 20th anniversary edition with a new cover, title, and modernized to include celebrity cat enthusiasts and influencers. What are a couple of your fondest memories of Kitty? Do you think kitty would have been a cat influencer?

*  There are an incredible amount of superstitions surrounding cats. What is the most memorable to you that you learned? Do you believe in any?

*  CATS is chalked full of fun and fascinating feline facts. Which is your favourite(s)? (Sailors once believed many spells and superstitions to keep them safe. It was very important to have a cat on board their ship, particularly a cat with six or seven toes on each paw.)

*  How does CATS aim to resonate with readers beyond cat owners or cat lovers? What are universal themes explored that would appeal to all pet or animal lovers?

            * Well-being: You discuss the positive impact of cats on mental health. Can you elaborate on this aspect and its significance? Can you share a story when Kitty had an impact on your health?

*In many ways, you were way ahead of your time when this was originally published 20 years ago. It still holds up. Except, now “cat influencers” and modern-day celebrities garner hundreds of thousands of followers, more than actual humans, posting cat photos. What do you think about the rise of proud cat-influencers?

*Cats played a powerful and positive role in the lives of many — Florence Nightingale owned more than sixty cats throughout her lifetime. Anne Frank, named her famous diary “Kitty.” Why did you named your cat Kitty? Story behind?

*Cats have inspired great literature, from Rudyard Kipling, Hemingway, Mark Twain, Timothy Finlay, and Margaret Atwood. Puss in Boots, the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland, and The Cat in the Hat have amused children as they tumble into dreamland. Do you have a favourite cat-loving author or movie featuring cats?

* Medical science offers evidence that the simple purring of cats may do more than just comfort their mortal companions—they may even help heal us. How did Kitty help heal you, both long and short term.

*  You never got another cat after Kitty’s death. What was the reasoning, aside from all your travels for work?

*   You admit, like so many, you always thought you were a “dog person.” How did Kitty change this for you? How would you convince weary others that cats make purr-fect pets?

*  Why do you think there is such a “divide” between cat vs. dog people? What do you find the biggest difference between cat owners and dog owners? Is there one?
