Rung de ONE 2017 – Canadian Colour Festival

Mississauga (July 9, 2017): Rung de ONE (RDO) – the Canadian Colour Festival, which this year featured a flash mob of 150 dancers performing for Canada 150.

On Sunday, July 9th the event was inaugurated by the city’s mayor, Bonnie Crombie at the outside of Sheridan College, Mississauga..

“I think this is my fourth Rung De’ ONE and the first couple, I said ‘no, no I can’t get coloured because I have to go somewhere else after, I can’t celebrate with you,’ ” she said, her hair blotched yellow, green and pink.

“So today I came and celebrated to get me all colourful. I think this is the biggest and the best one yet. We’re going to dance and we’re going to drum. We’re nice and colourful.”

The inspiration for Rung de’ ONE is derived from “Holi”, the Indian festival of colours which celebrates the triumph of all things good. In recent years, the festival has spread to various parts of the world, including Europe and North America as a celebration of love, frolic, and colours. Numerous legends and stories associated with the festival make our vision for Rung de’ ONE all the more exuberant, and vivid, as we extend the splash of colours across all cultures.

The Rung de’ ONE Colour Festival was launched in the summer of 2014 as a passion project and proof of concept, born out of the overwhelming demand among the South Asian community for a Holi-inspired colour festival.
